We want to inform residents of changes in the waste management fees effective from April 1, 2024. As previously communicated, in December 2023, we informed residents that the refuse removal costs would increase effective January 1, 2024. However, the SRMC (Harrisburg Incinerator) did not finalize their 2024 pricing in time, so the increase was not incorporated into the first quarter billing. This increase will be reflected in future billing. Additionally, due to the approved contract agreement with Waste Management (WM) for the collection of solid waste and recyclable materials at curbside, residents will see an additional increase in their WM monthly fees starting from April 1, 2024.
2024 WM Annual Increase and SRMC Tipping Fee Increase
In December 2023, the Township informed residents of an increase in the refuse removal costs that would be effective January 1, 2024. The SRMC increase will be reflected in future billing.
Starting April 1, 2024, Derry Township residents will see an additional increase in their Waste Management (WM) monthly fees as a result of the approved contract agreement with WM for the collection of solid waste and recyclable materials at curbside.ย
With the increase for the SRMC and contract agreement rate, residents utilizing the standard service of a 96-gallon container for garbage and a 64-gallon recycling container will see an increase in fees with WM per quarter at the cost of $137.94*. This is an increase of $8.60 per quarter. The Pay As You Throw (PAYT) option will remain unchanged at $6.93 per quarter, with the purchase of green trash bags for solid waste at $9.50. Services by WM will remain identical to the current services. Residents will continue to receive weekly curbside collection of solid waste and recyclable materials, yard waste collection (April-October), and weekly pickup of one bulk item.
