Collection is made one time per week.

Curbside collection includes (3) bags/containers, no more than 50 lbs. each.

Recyclable items are not limited in the amount collected.

Bulk Waste includes one item a week.  Items with Freon or hazardous material will not be collected. Special arrangement must be made with the hauler for an additional charge, or items can be dropped off at the Recycling Center for a fee.

Tags must be purchased at a Township facility for containers in excess of the 3 bag limit.

Yard and Leaf Waste will be collected on your regular trash day by the contracted waste hauler the week following the last Saturday of the month from April - October.  Items must be placed in a container not to exceed 32 gallons or in "Kraft" bags not to exceed 50 lbs.  Brnches and tree limbs must not exceed 3" in diameter, cut to 4' in length, bundled and secured by rope or twine and not exceeding 50 lbs.  There is no limit on the number of bags/bundles to be collected.

Lawn clippings are collected as a part of the 3 bag/container regular trash limit, but are placed in a different truck than the trash truck and are brought to the Township's Recycling Center.

Curb and Sidewalk Replacement

Each spring the Public Works Department offers residents the opportunity to participate in the Curb and Sidewalk Replacement Program. The program solicits bids for sidewalk replacement for all interested residents with the goal of receiving a lower cost collectively than residents could receive on their own.  When proposals are received, the participating residents are notified of the cost and have the option of withdrawing, or having the work completed.

Shade Tree Ordinance

The Shade Tree Ordinance specifies the location for trees between the curb and the sidewalk (tree lawn) in relation to intersections, signs and streetlights. The ordinance also specifies heights of branches over streets and sidewalks and the varieties to be planted. The ordinance requires that a Tree Permit (no charge) be received from the Department of Public Works prior to the planting, or removing of trees in the treelawn.

Snowfall and Township Roads

The Township of Derry adopted a Winter Maintenance Plan in 1996 to provide effective and timely snow removal in a method that maintains the transportation system with minimal disruption to the daily lives of township residents. The plan classifies the clean-up responses by levels based on the accumulation and duration of the storm. Each of the three levels has an established action plan. The Winter Maintenance Plan requires the establishment of a snow emergency center for the coordination of snow removal and resident communication, activation of Snow Emergency Routes, and enforcement of parking restrictions.
