Recycling/Trash Collection Services

Curbside Collections

The Township encourages residents to reduce the amount of trash that is generated and collected at curbside and to purchase items that are recycled.  Ordinance No. 314, the Municipal Solid Waste and Recycling Ordinance, requires all residents to use the services of the hauler that is awarded the bid for waste collection by the township.  Recycling in Derry Township is mandatory.

Trash

Residential customers may place three bags or three cans of garbage at curbside per week. The trash can may not exceed 35 gallons in size and can not weigh more than 50 lbs.  Trash must be placed at curbside by 5:00 a.m. on the collection day.
If trash is not collected on the scheduled day of service, please call the hauler’s customer service number.

Bulky Waste

Residential customers may place one bulky item per week at curbside on the regularly scheduled collection day.  The items must be able to be lifted and placed on the truck by two men.
Arrangements can be made with the hauler to pick-up items that are not included in the contract for an additional fee.  Please contact the hauler with questions regarding this service.

Composting

Composting bins are available at the Recycling Center during regular operating hours for $ 25.00 + tax. Fall is the perfect time to compost your leaves. Compost is a mixture of decaying organic matter such as grass, tree and shrub trimmings, and leaves. Composting creates rich organic soil-like material called humus. Composting enables you to recycle your yard wastes, returning organic matter to the soil and providing nutrients for healthy plant growth.
