The Hershey Public Library's mission is "to provide access to materials, services and information that fulfills the community's educational and enrichment needs". The Library actively promotes and supports reading, literacy and lifelong learning.
The 29,000 square-foot facility features over 102,000 books, music cassettes, compact disks, and more. The library is staffed by professional librarians and provides reference service, interlibrary loan, Internet access, and numerous children and adult programs including storytimes, summer reading programs, book discussion groups, computer classes, and author visits.
The library is maintained by the Township of Derry and is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees. The Friends of the Library provide volunteer and fundraising support. Derry Township residents may obtain a library card by presenting current identification with an address. Most Pennsylvania residents, who are non-residents of Derry Township, must present a library card from their hometown library in addition to current identification with an address.
