What is the population of Derry Township?

Where do I get a certificate of residency?

A certificate can be obtained at the School District Office on Granada Avenue.  Their number is 534-2501.

How do I obtain a marriage license?

Marriage licenses can be obtained at the Dauphin County Courthouse, Front & Market Streets, Harrisburg, 780-6506.

Where do I get an absentee ballot?

Applications for an absentee ballot can be obtained at the Municipal Complex, or at the Dauphin County Courthouse.  Applications may be requested up to 60 days in advance, but no less than seven days before the election.  Ballots must be received by the Department of Elections office by 5:00 p.m. the Friday prior to the election.

Do I need to have a license for my dog?

Dauphin County requires all dogs to have an annual license.  They are available for purchase at the Municipal Complex, the Dauphin County Courthouse, and the Humane Society, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, 564-3320.

When are Township meetings held?

The Board of Supervisors meets generally on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 at the Municipal Complex, 600 Clearwater Road.  Click here for the schedule.

Who is the District Justice and how do I reach them?

The District Justice is Dominic Pelino.  The phone number for the District Justice Office is 583-1912.

Where can I purchase a dog license?

Dog licenses are available at the Municipal Building, the Dauphin County Courthouse, and the Humane Society.

Garbage Collection

What should I do if my garbage was not picked up today?

Call York Waste Disposal to report problems related to trash collection.  Their number is 1-800-210-9675.  If a problem continues, call the Township Department of Public Works to make a report.

How do I get rid of bulk trash?

The Township’s contract with York Waste Disposal allows residents to place one bulk item per week at the curb for collection. Arrangements must be made with York Waste Disposal (1-800-210-9675) for a special pick-up (additional charge) for items that contain Freon, or they can be brought to the Recycling Center for a fee.

Who provides hazardous waste disposal?

Call the Household Hazardous Waste Hotline at 1-800-449-7587 to schedule a pick-up.  Hazardous waste can be identified by CAUTION, COMBUSTIBLE, CORROSIVE, DANGER, EXPLOSIVE, FLAMMABLE, HAZARDOUS, POINONOUS, REACTIVE, TOXIC, WARNING.

Where can I get a recycling bin?

Recycling bins are available at the Municipal Building and the Recycling Center.  Additional bins are $7.00 + tax.

How much trash can I put out a week?

Three containers that weigh no more than 50 lbs. each, unless you choose the one-can or pay-as-you-throw options.

What is the holiday trash pick-up schedule?

If your service day falls on a holiday, your trash and recyclables will be collected the following day.   All other collections for that week will follow the normal schedule.  If the holiday is on Friday, the collection will occur on Thursday.

Parks and Recreation

How do I reserve a pavilion at Shank Park?

Call the Department of Parks & Recreation at 533-7138.

Community Development

What do I need to know to make alterations to my home?

Call the Department of Community Development and request a Code Enforcement Officer.

What do I need to do in order to operate a business from my home?

Contact the Department of Community Development at 533-2057, option 2, to receive the guidelines for home businesses.

Is outdoor burning permitted in Derry Township?

Streets & Roadways

How do I report a broken tree limb in the public right-of-way or on the road?

Report all problems related to the roadways to the Department of Public Works, 533-2057, option 4; unless it is a state roadway.

Who do I call if I notice a damaged street sign, stop sign or warning sign.

What day does my street get swept?

Who should I notify when a street light is not working?

Contact PP&L at 1-800-342-5775, with the number on the pole and the location of the light, or call the Department of Public Works at 533-2057, option 4, and they will make a report to PP&L.

What should I do if my mailbox is damaged by a snow plow?


Notify the Department of Public Works at 533-2057, option 4.  The Township will reimburse a maximum of $25.  

Taxes

Who can answer a question on my tax bill?

Call the tax office at 534-1915.

Who is the tax collector?

Louis Paioletti is the tax collector.  The Tax Office is located at 610 Clearwater Road, 534-1915

 Police Department

What should I do when someone visits my home and tries to sell me something?

Ask if they have a Solicitor’s Permit.  If they do not, notify the Police Department.

How do I obtain a handicapped parking permit?

Applications for handicap parking are available at the Police Department.

What do I do if there is a stray animal in my neighborhood?

Contact the Police Department at 534-2202.
